Restro review: The Irish House (European)

The Irish House looks exactly the way you would imagine a pub in Ireland to look with wooden barrels, a comforting pub like bar and air conditioned indoor and outdoor seating.

Decor
I especially like the small outdoor section which overlooks the kids playground. Full marks for ambience! This is the problem with so many new places these days. The interiors and bar menu are spot on but something goes wrong when it comes to the execution of the food.

Food
The menu is a well thought out pub food with a well presented layout and thoughtful vegetarian dishes. It is a nice mix between traditional and contemporary. However, many of the starters in particular come out of a freezer bag (shrimp popcorn, chicken popcorn, onion rings, fries and so on). I understand that this is for convenience and standardisation but it lends no distinguishing or creative flair to this pub menu. Having said that there are a couple of interesting pub like main courses — the three lion steak is nothing to write home about. However, the philly cheese steak sandwich with caramelised onions and mushrooms is delicious as is the tomato and artichoke crostini sprinkled with goat's cheese. Murphy's barbecue sandwich is made with a spicy chilli and tomato sauce and not the tangy brown barbecue sauce I expected. Desserts are average but the service is friendly enough with helpful waiters. Irish pub is a great place to spend an evening if you are shopping in Phoenix Marketcity. They are open all day long post midday so very convenient for a quick snack. They have a full bar.
