idea to buy a used bike. Sometimes used bikes are more valuable
than new bikes because new bikes depreciate 20% in value within the
first day.

Example, If you are buying an R15, then you are spending around
Rs.20,000 on a single day! Even if you sell it on the second day,
you can do it for only 80% of the purchase price.

Buying a used bike involves patience, disconnection from your
emotions and using your logic and knowledge to make the right
buying decision!

The Indian second hand bikes market has grown leaps and bounds over
the years. Many people are going for second hand bikes rather than
buying brand new ones. As far as the cost is concerned, second hand
bikes are a good choice. But what precautions one has to take when
buying a second hand bike? Lets find out.

The second hand bike market is full of scamsters and frauds, this
calls for alert shopping. Some of the precautions and tips while
buying a second hand bike would include:

Check the bike's documents:  The first thing one has to do is to
check the documents of the bike pertaining to road tax, original
buying documents, insurance and registration. Check all the other
documents to check the legality of the motorcycle you intend to
buy.

Checkup: Employ an Expert or mechanic to check whether some sort of
a tampering is done with bike you intend to buy. Also ask them to
deep check the engine and other parts and estimate the remaining
life of the bike.

Say no to multiple used vehicles: It is of prior importance that
you avoid buying bike sold for more than one time. Also, prefer
buying the motorcycle straight from the owner. Care should also be
taken not to indulge in inter state buying and selling.

Test drive a must: Before you make any decision, always test drive
the machine yourself. A test drive will explain you to go or not to
go further in the deal.

Start engine in cold conditions, if there is a starting problem
then check the gears.

It is recommended to ride the vehicles in all gears before buying
and see that the engine makes no noise. If it makes noise like
those of a striking chord, vibration and cracks there definitely is
a problem with the engine.

Honda v/s Bajaj: Bajaj further narrowed the gap in the November

Bajaj Auto has continued the trend of selling more two wheelers compared to HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Ltd.) in November month too. In the month of November 2012, Bajaj Auto sold 2,27,186 motorcycles in the domestic market compared to 2,09,438 two wheelers of HMSI. Bajaj Auto sold 8.47% two wheelers more compared to HMSI which is again a healthy margin and narrowed down the gap between Bajaj Auto and HMSI to 1%.
HMSI sold total 2,23,116 units of two wheeler in the month of November 2012 which is 12.24% higher compared to November 2011 where it sold 1,98,782 units of two wheelers.  It sold 1,08,439 units (99,062 units domestically) of motorcycles in the month of November 2012 up by 36.39% compared to 79,506 units of motorcycle in the month of November 2011. It sold 1,14,677 units (1,10,376 domestically) of scooter in November 2012 down by 3.86% compared to 1,19,276 units of scooter in the month of November 2011. HMSI sales have went down in the scooter segment due to increased competition from Hero Motocorp and Yamaha’s newly launched Ray.
Bajaj Auto sold 3,26,727 units (2,27,186 domestically) of motorcycle in the month of November 2012 down by 1.58% compared to 3,31,967 units in the month of November 2011. In the domestic market the company has registered marginal de-growth. The company has sold more than 1,50,000 units of Discover brand which is slowly aiming for number 1 two wheeler brand across the globe.
Bajaj Vs Honda in 2012
HMSI sold 17.29 lakhs units during April to November 2012 compared to 17.10 lakhs units of Bajaj Auto for the same period in the domestic market. HMSI has maintained the lead of around 19 thousand units in the year till date figure. We expect Bajaj Auto and HMSI to report similar sales in the December 2012. Having said this, HMSI will maintain its year till date lead in December too. However, in the month January 2013, Bajaj Auto will launch new 100cc motorcycle which will definitely bring volumes to the  company in the domestic market.

Hero impulse goes up and high with indian airforce

In recent news, 5 Indian Air Force (IAF) riders have made it into the Limca Book of World Records when they successfully crossed 10 Himalayan passes in just 51 hours, the bike that IAF folks used to achieve this world record was the Hero Impulse off-road motorcycle. The 15 member team consisted of Warrant Officer Goutam Dhar Gupta, JWO Vikram Singh Yadav, Sgt. Ravinder Singh Rawat, Sgt. Tejinder Singh Kapoor and Sgt. Madan Mohan Reddy.
These brave guys not only made their way successfully through the 10 Himalayan passes but also broke the previous record of 20,493 feet proceeding to ride up to 20,540 feet. The ride started from Leh on 16th May and ended on 20th May. The route followed by the team was via the Marsimik La, Khardung La and Chang La Himalayan passes and the Tanglang La, Horlam La, Lachulung La, Nakee La, Baralacha La, Rohtang and Jalori. Some of the passes crossed by the team were the highest motorable road in the world. The team was congratulated by Air Marshall Jyoti Narayan Burma, Air Officer-in-Charge administration, Air headquarters, Indian Air Force, along with Anil Dua, senior vice-president (marketing and sales), Hero MotoCorp in Delhi.
Equally commendable I would say was the performance and reliability of the Hero Impulse which rode through such high terrains and helped the team to successfully complete the journey. The Hero Impulse is powered by a air cooled, 4 stroke, single cylinder OHC, 149.2cc engine that develops 13.2 PS of power @ 7500 RPM and 13.4 NM of torque @ 5000 RPM. It is mated to a 5 speed constant mesh gearbox. The front employs telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers while the rear gets a swingarm with mono suspension with Nitrox charged dampers. Front braking is provided by a 240mm disc while the rear is 110mm diameter drum type.
