Imagine walking in a tunnel. You are enveloped in blackness and there is a mystery in the air. That's what black garments do to the onlooker. Tall and lean people are bound to leave an impression when they wear black.

Here we suggest some ideas for making the colour black a part of your wardrobe:

Single-breasted, three-button jackets or a black suit with a white shirt and formal black trousers give the guys the 'look'.

"It is the weather in India that prevents us from wearing black on formal occasions," says Manish Nagpal, a designer who runs an export house. Black short dresses, a black stone pendant, black strap watches, black buttons, black Byblos belts with unusual chrome buckle. Ray Bans of MIB, black shoes, shining black leather square toe shoes, tie in black silk with geometric designs.

Black symbolizes change, versatility, attitude and confidence.

There is black crepe, black lycra, black velvet, black wool. Black looks best in fabrics that absorb colour and retain blackness. A black dress can be work both as a host and guest.

A black yoke with a crepe dupatta lends mystery to white top to add a formal touch.

Black is a slimming colour. It does not give away what you want to held back.

And many people consider black as inauspicious, but then our eyebrows and hair are also black? Aren't they?
