Piercings make a fashion statement

iercings have been a part of our tradition. Both men and women have been piercing their ears and noses for years now. But, this tradition has now transitioned into a style statement. It's the 'sexy' thing to do if you want to look cool, trendy, different and even sexy. Sabby, a tattoo and piercing artist, says, "The trend has really caught on amongst teenagers. They want to look different at all times. They think it suits their personality. It gives a 'cool dude' look." And where do they get these piercings now? "The ear lobe size increases from 2 mm to 24 mm at one go. And, there are variety of earring in various shapes and sizes to make each piercing look different. Then there are the eyebrows, tongue, lips, upper lip, chest, navel, nails, and arms that are being pierced."

Pune is a city that has progressed with times. People are more open to newer trends. Thus, it's not an uncommon sight to spot young girls showing off toned mid-riffs with a navel ring looking quite sexy. Rahul Gaikwad, who does piercings for youngsters and elders, says, "The trend is not limited to any one age group. Older men and women too pierce their navels and eyebrows. It's about being part of the crowd." Reshmi Shah, mother of two, recently got her belly -button pierced. "It's the boldest and hippest thing I've done lately!" she laughs. "I was very shy and apprehensive initially but my kid encouraged me and it really does look fab."

Another trend that's picking up in the city is of teeth tattooing. The teeth are studded with crystals and it gives the effect of blingy piercings.
