Director K V Anand, who was the cinematographer for Sivaji, says, "When Shankar offered me Sivaji, I declined as I was almost ready with the script for Ayan. When I told my family that I had turned down a Rajinikanth films,everyone (from my mom to my wife and kids) almost screamed at me. They told me to drop my direction plans and just accept the film.That is a clear indication of Rajini sir's popularity."
Anand lauds Rajini's work ethic and adds that he never had to compromise when working with him unlike other stars. "He has no airs and stays till the end of the shoot on the location without taking refuge in his vanity van. And, when I say a shot is ready, he is at his place in seconds saving valuable time, he praises. Whether it is 2D or 3D, Rajinikanth is Rajinikanth. But Sivaji provided the right canvas for his larger than life personality."
Raghava Lawrence, who is known for his dance skills, and Vijay Anthony, lyricist-turned-actor,who are both big fans of the star, launched a special song for his guru this birthday. Unveiled by Latha Rajinikanth, the song has been released on a video networking site. Lawrence said that every year he does a special pooja at the Raghavendra temple and sends the prasadam across to the Superstar's house. This year, he decided to make it doubly special with this song. Lawrence says,I am one among Rajini's millions of fans across the globe."This year I find 12.12.12,a very special date, which is my Thalaivar's birthday as well. So I want to celebrate the special day with the Rajini song composed exclusively for the Superstar."

Director Suresh Krissna has penned his memoirs of the star while Naman Ramachandran tries to explain the phenomenon he is. Talking about Rajini's career and his growth, director Suresh Krissna says, "Rajinikanth has phased his career brilliantly. He realized that his popularity had skyrocketed and his market value had shot through the roof after Baasha. Instead of cashing in on that, he asked himself, 'Can I maintain this level of heroism?' And, he started cutting down on his films from four or five films per year in the 80s,he is now doing a film once in three years. While other stars continue to act in films regularly, with this strategy, the Superstar has made his fans anticipate his every release."
