Restaurant review: Wild Ginger

Restaurant review: Wild Ginger

This is the third F&B offering from foodies, Sanjeevitha, Roger Hessing and Major Mor, who own and run the popular eateries Via Milano and Urban Asia.

Decor
We endorse the restaurant's uber cool shade of white, interspersed with the turquoise blue of the table linen and upholstery, in an otherwise minimalist decor. The only visual break is provided by a rather striking green motif, part-stenciled and part-mounted, on the wall of an entire side of the restaurant.

Food
It is an all-day eatery, so you have a substantive menu to leaf through. There is South Indian tiffin (priced lower than Chutneys, by the way), Continental fare like fish and chips, North Indian (butter chicken, dal makhni etc) and Hyderabadi biryani, which of course features on the daily lunch buffet. There is a breakfast buffet too, but dinner is only a la carte.

We start on a host of kebabs, of which the Bhatti Chicken and the Mutton Shikampuri deserve special mention, the vegetarians can munch on paneer sandwich, which is paneer grilled in an Indian marinade, surprisingly quite light in the spice quotient.

My superlatives, however, are reserved for two main courses, the Nalli Nehari and Butter Chicken, best had with hot and crisp Laccha Paratha (just so happens that the chef handling the North Indian fare is from Delhi).

The Paneer Taka Tak, with its smoky and tangy taste, would be a great choice for vegetarians, as well as the Dal Makhni, which I personally found a wee bit spicy, but would appeal to an Andhraite palate! For those who like to sip on something cool, you cannot miss the deliciously light-and-yet-brimming with cocoa flavour Oreo cookie shake. And last, but not the least, cheesecake fans should get some Blueberry cheese cake (huge), made of real mascarpone cheese. With a deliciously crispy crust bottom, and lusciously creamy on the blue berry topping, which is not too sweet and has its flavour intact, this one is a dream, the icing on the cake being its pricing, a humble `55!

Plus & Minus
The lunch buffet, priced at a modest ` 249 (plus taxes) could be a little more substantive, we thought. The a la carte servings sizes, however, are huge.
