Madhubani walls
Imagine turning your living room or your favourite space in the office
into an original work of art? Imagine having a part of your home done up
by traditional artisans who have been practising these arts for
generations. You can now do it all and more, thanks to Nishant Gupta and
Roshan Ravi, who own 100Krafts. These two entrepreneurs are currently
giving traditional Madhubani artists a new lease of life. “My business
partner Roshan is from Bihar and we wanted to do something for Madhubani
artists,” Nishant, co-founder, 100Krafts says. With this new project,
100Krafts helps customers bring home traditional artists from the
Madhubani district, and have them paint murals exclusively. “Currently,
we are taking on projects in Bengaluru and Delhi,” Nishant explains.
Potential customers can log on to the web or Facebook page of 100Krafts
to order the services of an artist. The cost for the entire process
includes the travel and stay of the artist, as well as his fee
(calculated per sq. ft). “We have started out with Madhubani but will
soon expand to Tanjore paintings and other traditional arts, especially
because these artisans do not have the means to market their work on the
Internet. We will provide them with the necessary support,” Nishant
says. “Artisans too are now waking up to the demands of new-age
customers. For instance, some of the artists we met in Bihar, in the
villages of Madhubani, offered their work in various mediums – such as
paper, cloth and even on t-shirts,” he explains. If bringing home an
artist isn’t an option, you can also order a wall painting custom-made
to suit your room or wall’s specifications.
