How to lounge on comfortably at home

Create your own chill-out zone at home

Festive season is just around the corner, and you need a 'chill-out zone' at home that can help you unplug and catch up with some 'me time' amidst the festive frenzy. A day-bed, accent chairs and loungers at corners in your home can work beautifully to accommodate this.

Daybeds are a functional combination of a chaise lounge, couch and bed and can be used for lounging, reclining and sitting. Shilpa Kalanjee Pastala, interior expert and furniture designer says, "Daybeds can be used in informal living spaces and also outdoors — in balconies, verandas and patios." Shilpa feels that both rustic as well as contemporary decor work well with daybeds.

Designer Krsna Mehta says that colourful cushions can be used to brighten up the spaces and help you make a special corner for yourself very appealing. Cushions of all shapes and sizes when grouped together or used as separates on a daybed, or sofa, can help enhance and change the decor of the area.

Another element is the 'occasional' chair. They are special, because they can often make a statement just by sitting at one corner of your otherwise simply done-up room. Talking about them, interior designer Rajesh Balachandran says, "These are fun forms that redefine design." The Cuboid Right Arm modular chair can work very well as an accent piece at home, and also give you your special, cosy, comfortable, corner chair.

Shahid Datawala, furniture designer, who creates works of art that are also very functional says, "Day-to-day life holds colourful and sometimes bizarre experiences which I translate into artistic form."

If you choose a designer chair or lounger for one corner try not to clutter the rest of your room with a lot of furniture — otherwise the beauty of the special piece will be eclipsed unnecessarily. So, go on, pick the right furniture and then do up 'your' corner.
