Private Car Insurance
Oriental Insurance provides motor
insurance policies for Private Car, Two Wheelers and Commercial
Vehicles in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act. The Act requires
every vehicle plying on the road or in public place to have insurance
for liability towards third party. In addition, the company also
provides comprehensive or package insurance policies which insure the
policyholder against various other causes of damage and losses.
Two kind of basic motor policies are available for all vehicles, whether private or commercial.
Liability Only Policy: The Liability only policy includes only the mandatory insurance cover as per the Motor Vehicle Act and covers the expenses and losses incurred owing to physical damages or death of the third party in an incident involving the vehicle and damages to third party property.
Package Policy: The package policy or the comprehensive cover policy includes the third part liability coverage and also provides insurance for loss or damage to the vehicle with respect to various man-made calamities and natural calamities. The policy also provides cover for damages by accidental and external means while in transit by road/rail, inland water, air or lift.
Man-made calamities include fire, lightning, explosion, burglary, theft, strike and riot, malicious act and terrorist activity. Among the natural calamities are typhoon, storm, hurricane, tempest, flood, earthquake and landslide/rockslide.
The premium for the insurance policy will depend upon the make and model of the vehicle in addition to the place of registration and past claim history. These factors are considered to arrive at the Insured’s Declared Value from which the depreciation according to the age of the vehicle is subtracted. Moreover, additional equipment installed in the vehicle such electronic or non-electronic items can be included in the insurance by payment of extra premium.
In case the vehicle is installed with a CNG/LPG kit, the equipment should be permitted and registered by the RTO and mentioned in the Registration Certificate. The CNG/LPG installation has to be separately declared to the insurance company at the time of buying insurance. Additional premium will be chargeable for the installation.
A new or renewed insurance policy can be availed at any of the Oriental Insurance offices for which the locations and their respective addresses can be located by going to the website: www.orientalinsurance.nic.in and clicking “LOCATIONS” on the top.
It is advisable to get the vehicle insured before the expiry of the old policy for staying protected against risks and losses. Moreover, it helps in retaining the No Claim Bonus, if any, which can be transferred to the new policy and discounts can be availed on the premium payable according to the period of no claims.
