A Harley ride from Vizag to Goa
Come January 27 and the city's Harley Owners Group will take off on a 4,318 km road trip to participate in Harley's 110th anniversary celebrations in Goa starting from January 31
It is show-off time for Harley Davidson owners! While for most of us, the festive revelry might have ended on December 31, for the Harley Owners Group (HOG) the big party is on January 31 in Goa. What's more, the HOG celebrations will merge with the India Bike Week, one of the biggest bike fests in the country that has over 30,000 bikers congregating. The event kick starts on February 2 right on the Konkan coast.
Meanwhile, seven of the city's bikers are busy preparing for the first-of-its-kind fest that promises a lot of entertainment too. The bikers are all set to hit the road on January 27, to embark on a 4,318 km road trip to join the celebrations. Abhishek Nayak, the founder member of HOG, says "I'm looking forward to the national meet that will commence on January. From February 1 to 3 we have the rally. It is a huge event that comprises of rock concerts and food fests among others."
Deepak Bikkina, who is one amongst the first in Vizag to own a Harley, says, "I was 18, when my dad presented me my first bike. I can never forget the day. It was such a proud moment. In 2010, I started the HOG Hyderabad and since then, I have been an active member. Recently, I have been on a road trip to Hampi, Srisailam and I have also participated in the rock rider's concert that happened in Bangalore. I'm anxiously looking forward to the biggest biker event that will happen in January where I get to ride all the way from Vizag to Goa."
For Abhishek Koneru, a real estate businessman, a Harley Davidson came into his life this year, thanks to his wife. He says, "This year, in the month of May, my wife presented me an Iron 883. It was the best gift that I have ever received. For me, the HOG is all about being in the brotherhood. It's a cult! It is my first road trip and I am very excited."
Biker Muralikrishna, an IT entrepreneur, says that he is looking forward to having the time of his life at the upcoming Harley Rally. "I had always dreamt of owning a Harley. At one point of time, I even wanted to import the bike. From Yamaha RX-100 to Yamaha RD 350, I rode almost every super bike. But when Harley launched, I was the first one to own the Super Glide Custom 1583cc ." Now that I am a part of HOG, I'm looking forward to participating in that event.
As the city's seven bikers prepare themselves for the arduous yet exciting trip ahead, they predict that their tribe will swell in numbers. "We are looking forward to adding new entrants at the grand gala," says Abhishek before vrooming off.
