Bajaj Pulsar 200NS Review by Anand

by Deepak Raj on January 10, 2013
Some call it a bumblebee, some call it a street fighter, and for some, it’s a newly styled muscular beast. Yes, I’m talking about Bajaj’s latest product “Pulsar 200NS”. A bike which stands for the term “evolution” in Indian biking history. I’m Anand, a bike enthusiast from the ‘City of joy’, Kolkata. Here’s the review of one of the best things in my life.
Rider (Me) wid the logo

How It joined my life

It was the month of June when I had my CPT (C.A. foundation exam) and the only words that was tingling my mind were ”Pass the foundation exam n then u can have a bike” (Said by my dad). So after the exam (which went so good which I knew for sure I was going to pass) I started shortlisting bikes. Those days I used to ride my dad’s 15 year old Hero Honda Splendor, even though I learnt biking on TVS Victor and Bajaj Discover, I used the Splendor for more than a year to get my hands on a bike perfectly so that I can jump on to a bigger one easily.
Hi csmarimuthu,

Are you a biker who wakes up every morning and talking to your
mirror about compensating your fuel expenses? Well here is
something to relieve you from the stress.

1. If you see a bike's specification there will be a section about the
vehicle's torque @ certain rpm. Torque denotes the pulling force
that the vehicle can offer at that particular engine speed. Every
engine has certain rpm range where it can offer maximum torque. Try
to keep below that range (not too low) so that you don't burn a lot
of fuel.

2. Clutch riding / half clutch tends to wear out the clutch facing
quickly. This considerably reduces the power transmitted from the
engine. Some adjust the play to half clutch owing to the reason
that it is easier to drive in slow moving traffic, but they won't
realize that they are doing it at the cost of frequent fuel refills
and clutch replacement.

3. Selection of appropriate gear is mandatory. Under-gearing /
over-gearing are not good friends of fuel economy. Riding in higher
gears at very low speeds (by clutch partially engaged) and lower
gears at high speeds tends to draw more fuel. So don't hesitate to
shift gears appropriately.

4. Starting earlier to work/college will also help saving fuel
indirectly. As the peak hour approaches the traffic density
increases and it demands frequent stops and crawling speed. So why
waste your precious time and fuel?

5. Always ensure that your vehicle's transmission is sufficiently
lubricated. This is because if there is more friction between the
parts the engine will draw more fuel to compensate your speed
demand. Also friction is not healthy exercise to the parts.

6. The engine can not only be used for moving the vehicle but also to
slow it down. This is called engine braking When the throttle is
released only idling amount of fuel will be supplied to engine and
the power will be transmitted from wheels to the engine. Thus the
vehicle slows down due to the resistance offered by the engine.
There are some places to use this phenomenon like when you are
about to stop for an obstacle which is say some 10-50 meters (Note:
this range depends on your speed) ahead of you just release the
throttle rather than breaking hard near it and let the 'engine
braking' work its magic (can also be employed in slow moving
traffic). You can also down shift if you need to. This thereby
reduces unwanted fuel consumption and also saves brakes from
wearing out.

7. Don't have your head lamps turned unnecessarily ON which in turn
demands more fuel by the engine to charge the battery/run the
alternator. Unwanted electrical accessories can also be avoided.

8. Make sure that your vehicle's idling speed is set as per the
manufacturer's specification. If set higher intakes excess fuel
during idling and if set lower engine tends to stall frequently
this in turn needs richer mixture to start the vehicle.
At times when you have to wait in a traffic signal for more than 30
secs switch OFF your engine. If you have self starter try
alternating between kick starter also to avoid heavy load acting on
battery frequently.

9. Above all these maintain a log book about your fuel refills, type
of journey distance covered per journey (even if it is very short),
fuel consumption per liter to know about your driving performance
so that you can improve further.

10. Let me hope that these points will at least save you a rupee per
day. Also you are indirectly reducing the density of polluted air
for others.

Indian supercar owners finally have a place to have fun

Do you own a super car and can’t figure out where to drive it? Are you tired of driving on the same 2km stretch of road that is smooth enough to accommodate your super low 400+bhp car? Are you dying to test the limits of your 2 crore rupee car? If you have answered yes to all of the above then its time for you to head to the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

Would you pay 40 lakh for a Jeep?

The luxury car market in India has been growing consistently and while it does hint at the fact that people are indeed buying more luxurious cars it doesn’t necessarily mean that Indian consumers are buying expensive cars. There are still many cars which have a high price tag, which seem luxurious and which also might come under the banner of a luxury brand, but these cars do not sell very well, the best examples being Volvo and Volkswagen. When Indians go into the market for luxury they demand the very best, an anything priced above Rs 20 lakh should automatically fall into the luxurious category.

Honda India to assemble new CR-V SUV in India

Honda India to assemble new CR-V SUV in India

BikeAdvice - 10 Tips on Being a Sensible Rider

10 Tips on Being a Sensible Rider

by Naren on November 27, 2011
These days, I see a lot of kids riding Activas and other scooters and bikes as well. I don’t know if this scene is becoming too common in Bangalore alone or across the nation itself. What makes me worried is the way these kids ride these two wheelers. Small kids in the age group of 13 to 15 roam around in the streets with their throttles fully opened.
There is a reason why I come up with a post on this particular title. Yesterday, a kid (that’s what I wanna refer to him as) came speeding in a White Activa, lost his control and fell right in front of my bike. More than the speed with which he came and fell, what made me stunned was the fact that after the fall, guess the number of people who got up. They were four in number. Four people in a single Activa was something I cannot even imagine.
This incident made me the feel that nobody can boast about being a biker, but being a sensible rider is the ‘Need of the Hour.’ Here are few tips which will make you one.

2013 BMW X1 xDrive28i Test Drive and Review
Sport utility vehicles and crossovers once seemed destined for endless supersizing, but a funny thing happened on the way to five-buck-a-gallon gas: those big ol’ SUVs started downsizing. Enter late 2012, and the contraction has reached new lows—or highs, depending on your perspective.
BMW’s fresh-for-2013 X1 joins their stable of sport utes and starts anywhere between $30,650 and $38,450, with a 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty, and EPA ratings between 18/27 mpg and 24/34 mpg. Is this pint-sized five door a welcome addition to the SUV universe, or a needlessly shrunken crossover?

How to score at an interview

How to score at an interview

How to score at an interview

With the recession leading to severe job cuts, impressing your potential employer at an interview is vital. Here's how you can nail your next interview

Do

1. Keep a lid on excessive hand gestures : Most of the times your over anxiousness about the result of an interview can make you indulge in extreme hand movements that distract from what you're saying. Too high (above shoulder height) looks a shade eccentric and unstable, while too low (below waist height) makes you look fatigued and demoralised.

2. Come prepared for an interview: If you have a long travel to undertake, carry your jacket in a suit bag, or another shirt that is neatly pressed. There's nothing worse than coming to work looking all crumpled.

3. Dress conservatively: Less is more. An interview isn't the time to show your edginess and funky style statement. Conformity might sound boring, but it's better to play safe. Choose shades like navy, white and black contrasted with lighter hues as they denote integrity and professionalism.

Avoid

French manicure : A French manicure with long nails could end up looking tacky to an interviewer.

Limp handshake : Offering fingertips for a handshake suggests dearth of confidence.

Do not come in carrying a plastic bag : You'll look disorganised and unfocused if you stumble in after a shopping jaunt. Also, it's at risk of falling over and spilling the contents everywhere as soon as you put it down.
