Hyundai India announces price hike

Hyundai India has announced a price hike across all its car models by up to Rs 20,878 effective February 1, 2013. The carmaker has attributed the price to the increase in input costs and is among many other auto manufacturers who have hiked car prices due to the same reason.

The price hike comes amid sluggish market conditions which have been further escalated by the fluctuating Indian rupee and high input costs. The prices will be increase across Hyundai car models from the entry level Eon small car to the Santa Fe mid-size cross over in the range of Rs 4,201 to Rs 20,878.

The South Korean carmaker also plans to launch a compact car later in 2013 which will be based on the i10 hatchback and will compete with the Swift hatchback by Maruti Suzuki, the Sail by Chevrolet and the New Indica by Tata.

Other carmakers in India who have hiked prices include Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
