Maybach India

Maybach Logo
The name Maybach stands for one of the finest and most exclusive automobiles in the world. Maybach is both- exterior and interior design of its high-end luxury cars.
In the twenties and thirties of the last century, Maybach, along with Mercedes-Benz, belonged to the elite of the German and international carmakers. It resumed this tradition in 2002. Maybach first presented the 57 and 62 models. Maybach added the 57 S in 2005, a high-performance luxury sedan with sporty suspension design, to its model family. Since 2006 the new 62 S as fourth Maybach variant combines superb touring comfort with superior performance. The Landaulet also is a member of the Maybach family since 2008. In 2009 the brand crowned its range of luxury sedans with the new Maybach Zeppelin. It represents the pinnacle of the high-end luxury car segment and is the most powerful Maybach of all times. The car is a worthy successor to the legendary Maybach Zeppelin, which was considered the world leader in superior-standard car manufacturing in the 1930s.
Made-to-measure individualization is the luxury brand's recipe for success, offering customers unique opportunities to equip their top-class cars. The Sindelfingen Manufaktur realizes a host of special requests, emphasizing for one thing the use of materials and techniques which afford a sensuous look and feel - which is why the Maybach specialists come up again and again with fine new materials and paint finishes which often have been specially developed for Maybach and are not offered by any other carmaker in the world. With a passion for the exceptional, a well-developed feel for the perceptive faculty of the human senses, and in continuous dialogue with customers, the Maybach Manufaktur constantly enlarges its range of optional and customer-desired equipment to satisfy the requirements and wishes of the most exclusive group of car buyers.
Maybach’s aspiration to be the leader in the high-end luxury segment is being strengthened by the facelift. 'Excellence refined' is the strategic guiding principle behind this facelift and underlines Maybach's justified claim to represent 'excellence in luxury'.

Company History

Maybach is associated with the most beautiful and special vehicles on the road. New York, Monte Carlo and Berlin were locations where the first few Maybach’s were spotted in the 1920s and the 1930s. At the beginning of the 1940’s the Maybach era came to an end.
The Maybach has returned for the 21st century. The current version once again sets new standards with its technology, design and individuality. The car is a special commodity to its driver just as a guitar is to the guitar player.
More than 100 years ago, Wilhelm Maybach built a car that heralded the modern era. His Opus No.1 went down in history as the first Mercedes, and he is still remembered as the "king of the design engineers".
Karl Maybach succeeded his father creating great cars. They set many standards in terms of size, technology and performance by the end of the twenties, Maybach followed this up in the thirties with a surprise move: the introduction of a "small" model, known by the abbreviation SW, which stood for swing axle. Maybach cars were handcrafted, a unique product built in accordance with the wishes of the individual customer, as is still the case with every Maybach today.

Company Founder(s)

After an initial period at Loewe & Co. in Berlin, Karl Maybach started working as a trainee at “Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft” in Cannstatt.During this period of training - and thanks to his father’s advice (testified by extensive correspondence) - Karl Maybach quickly learned all the secrets concerning the building of great engines.
Karl Maybach became technical manager at “Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH” in 1909. After a few years, the talented engineer took over the running of the company, renaming it “Maybach Motorenbau GmbH”, and basing it in Friedrichshafen.
Even during the arduous period of World War I, Karl Maybach demonstrated his immense skills and abilities in designing and building engines for airships and airplanes.
Back in peace time, the company was able to concentrate its efforts on automotive production and the marque Maybach acquired a reputation for creating sensationally luxurious automobiles. In 1923, Karl Maybach’s fame was celebrated with the presentation of an honorary degree by the University of Stuttgart.
The Maybach Type 12 was equipped with the first 7 litre V12 engine delivering 150 hp. A stunning car, still regarded as a landmark in the history of automobile manufacturing, which Karl Maybach dedicated to his father, Wilhelm Maybach, who died later that year.
From 1947 to 1951, Karl Maybach lived with his family in Vernon, France. During this period he designed a 1.000 hp engine for the French government. In 1952 he left the management of “Maybach Motorenbau GmbH” and retired to his home in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Two years later, in 1954, he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Federal Republic of Germany.
Karl Maybach died in Friedrichshafen on 6th February 1960.

Vision & Values

The Maybach marque has a remarkably distinguished heritage. Maybach is a luxurious car and believes in quality over quantity.

Management Team

Since Maybach is owned by Daimler, it’s management is the same as Daimler - see Mercedes Benz.

Manufacturing Facilities

Maybach produced only 10 units of the Exelero at 10 million dollars each. The Exelero is a two-seater coupe and can reach 0-60 kmph in 4.4 seconds. The car's design was the result of a competition amongst students at the Pforzheim Polytechnic Department of Transport Design, which has worked on show vehicles for Fulda in the past. The design of a 24-year old was chosen and was coordinated with the Maybach Design Center. This required re-engineering changing various parts of the car. They plan to produce more models for on-road use.
The Maybach 57S Couple has been produced. It was designed by Burch Fred Hardt, the same guy who designed the Exelero concept. The Xenatec production is limited at 100 units and its starting price is $923,440.
The Maybach production plant is in the Sindelfingen plant of Daimler Chrysler covering 21,000 square meters. 330 professionals produced five Maybachs per day in 2002.
However the bad news is that Daimler Chrysler is considering ending Maybach production.

Technology

The engine that Maybach uses is the Type 12 engine which develops more power and torque than any other standard engine following the footsteps of Maybach Zeppelin when he produced the first twelve cylinder engine in 1929.
The Maybach has a five speed automatic transmission and a larger torque converter. The one touch gearshift of the automatic engine offers ease of use.
The Airmatic DC (Dual Control) creates comfort in driving. The system combines controlled pneumatic cushioning with the adaptive dampening system (ADS II). The Maybach convinces of the high agility, driving dynamic and optimal handling.
The brake system has eight brake circuits. The brake disks and control system such as the ESP, ASR, ABS and Brake Assist ensure highest possible safety. The double SBC system disposes of electronic brakes with two master control modules, two high pressure storage, two hydraulic aggregates.

Awards & Recognition

Maybach received the “Five Star Diamond Award” presented by the American Academy of Hospitality Services (AAHS) in 2003. Maybach has received the “Automobile of the Century” by AAHS based on tradition, excellence and high standards.
Maybach also sponsored the World Superyacht Awards 2009.

Maybach does not export cars from India.

Future Plans

Maybach wants to produce three new cars in the future: the four-door coupe initiatied bt the Mercedes CLS, the limousine convertible and the sports utility vehicle
However, at the same time the company is not doing very well. According to Daimler, its parent company, Maybach options might be to close down, look for a partner or find a way to renew the brand as sales are really low for Maybachs.
More recently, however Daimler is now looking for a partner to safeguard it Maybach brand. If a suitable partner is found then the brand will be retained. Last year only 157 cars were made as opposed to expectations of 1,500 per year.
