Key benefits

HDFC ERGO has a wide network of more than 1600 authorized garages across India to ensure assistance to customers. Cashless claims can be availed by the policyholders at these authorized garages in case of damage to the vehicle. While renewing motor policy, in case the policyholder has no claims in the prior year(s) a ‘no claim’ bonus may be availed and the amount deducted from the premium amount to be paid. Discounts are also based on age and profession and membership of Automobile Association. The insurance policy can be bought and renewed conveniently through the online portal. A dedicated customer support team further ensures complete assistance to customers.

Features

The HDFC ERGO private car insurance offers a comprehensive package providing coverage against loss or damage to the insured vehicle by an event such as an accident by external means, burglary or house breaking and theft and damage or loss due to fire, explosion, self Ignition and lightning. It also covers the vehicle against damages or loss by human acts of terrorism, riots, strikes and malicious acts. Any damage or loss of the vehicle during transit by road, rail, inland waterways and air or lift is covered by the policy. Further, damage or loss by natural calamities such earthquake, flood, storm and landslide or rockslide is also insured by the policy.
The Third Party Insurance is mandatory according to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 which directs that all vehicles should be insured for liability to third party which may arise due to injury or death of a third party during an accident of the vehicle. The HDFC ERGO private car policy covers not only the third party liabilities but also provide a Personal Accident cover for the owner for an amount upto Rs. 2,00,000 and covers Accidental Death and Permanent Total Disability.

Additional discounts

HDFC ERGO offers various options to avail discounts on the basis of age and profession. Policyholders aged between 36 to 45 years are offered a discount of 5 percent on the own damage section while those aged between 46 to 60 years are offered 10% discount on the same. The policyholder must submit a copy of his/her PAN card to the insurance office at the time of applying for the policy. If the policy has been bought online, the proof of age is required to be submitted at the time of claim.
Policyholders who are qualified and practicing chartered accountants can also avail a discount of 5 percent on the Own Damage section. Customers serving in the Defence and paramilitary services or those under government employment also enjoy a 5 percent discount. A government employee can be a person teaching in government recognized schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions, employee in the department of state or central government or certified doctor registered with a government recognized Medical Council. For such discounts, the policyholders would be required to submit supporting certificate and proofs.

Add on cover

HDFC ERGO understands how much its customers care about their vehicles and the amount of energy and effort spent in analysing and investing in their dream car. Thus, the company provides its customers with the option of Add on cover which is a comprehensive insurance plan designed for optimum coverage. This enhanced coverage plan secures the policyholder against damage eventualities other than the standard coverage policy. The comprehensive coverage policy ensures minimization of out-of-pocket expenditure in addition to widening the scope of insurance.
The plans available for Add-on cover are as follows:
  • Silver Plan - Zero Depreciation Claim
  • Gold Plan -  Zero Depreciation Claim & Loss of Use / Down Time Protection
  • Emergency Assistance Add on Wordings

Exclusions

The personal car policy coverage has a few exclusions wherein the loss or damage incurred could have been foreseen and even avoided. These include damages due to general aging and wear and tear, depreciation, mechanical or electrical failure and damages sustained in war, mutiny or nuclear risks and outside the geographical boundary of India. The policy doesn’t cover any damages where the driver of the vehicle is under influence of liquor, alcohol or drugs or doesn’t possess a valid driving licence. Damage to tires and tubes are also excluded from the policy unless the damage has been incurred at time of the accident.

Procedure in case of an accident

In case there has been an accident, the company must immediately be informed through the customer care number 1800-2-700-700 and the policy number must be provided to register the claim. Help for towing or ambulance services can be requested if required.
After the legal formalities (if any) at the scene of accident, the vehicle if in the condition of being driven, should be taken to the nearest garage or service center. An estimate of the repair cost is made and accordingly the claim form should be filled and submitted along with the supporting documents such as a copy of the registration certificate and the Driving license of the person driving the car at the time of the accident.
Cashless claim facility can be availed if the garage or service center is a part of the HDFC ERGO network. If not, the cost of repairs will be reimbursed in form of the settlement of the insurance claim.

Documents required for submitting insurance claims

In order to file an insurance claim, the company would need certain documents in support of the claim form as proof of authenticity. The documents required depends upon the situation and the type of case the claim is being under. Following are the documents required for filing a claim under separate cases:

In case of an accident claim for loss/damage to the vehicle:

  • Duly filled and signed claim form
  • Registration Certificate (RC)
  • Driving License of the person driving at the time of the accident
  • Policy Copy
  • Original repair estimate, repair invoice and payment receipt for non-cashless claims
  • Original repair invoice for Cashless Claims

In case of loss due to theft:

  • Duly filled and signed claim form
  • Registration Certificate (RC)
  • Original Policy Copy
  • Copy of FIR (First Information Report) lodged at the nearest police station
  • All original keys
  • No Trace report confirming that the stolen vehicle is not traceable

In case of Legal Liability Claims:

  • Duly filled and signed claim form
  • Registration Certificate (RC)
  • Driving License of the person driving at the time of the accident
  • Original Policy Copy
  • Copy of FIR (First Information Report) lodged at the nearest police station
  • Any legal notice received by you
  • Vakalatnama - Authorizing us to handle the case on your behalf
