Indian carmaker Tata Motors has witnessed a
decline of 20 percent in the sales for the month of December 2012. The
automaker posted sales of 65,582 vehicles in the month in comparison to
82,278 units sold in the same month in 2011.
The passenger sales of the company fell 51 percent in the month of December 2012 at 14,185 units compared with 28,916 units sold in the same month in 2011. The exports of the company fell 31 percent to 3,882 units against 5,615 units exported in the same month in 2011.
The carmaker has been struggling in the Indian car market during the year 2012 to counter the unfavorable market conditions brought about by inflation, high fuel prices and high interest rates. The company has witnessed tough competition from rival companies such Mahindra & Mahindra who have been putting up strong sales figures boosted by a strong diesel car portfolio.
