Cadillac ATS
Cadillac ATS
We've been waiting thirty years for Cadillac to produce a car that
could compete with the BMW 3-series. The ATS is it -- but it also isn't,
and that's why it's on this list. The ATS follows the basic 3-series
planform: A trim rear-wheel-drive sports sedan complete with a
turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. But that's where the similarities end:
Stylistically, the ATS is pure Cadillac, from its sharply-angled
sheetmetal to its CUE user interface (the execution of which may not be
perfect, but they get bonus points for trying something new). Does it
drive like a 3-series? Not quite, but as I pointed out in
the review, neither does the
latest 3-series.
The ATS does deliver the perfect driving experience for the home
market: Responsive and engaging on a challenging curvy road, quiet and
comfortable on long, boring freeways. It's nice to have an American
luxury car of which we can be proud.
